Project Description:

Provide in-person education on the legalization of cannabis to all CPS sworn members of varying ranks, civilians and other municipal employees such as bylaw officers. Development of on-the-job resources, training references and a Course Training Standard (CTS). Working with federal, provincial and municipal level subject matter experts and stakeholders.

- Learner guide and facilitator guide

- Custom photos of evidence, procedures, paraphernalia, etc.

Primary Objectives:

Examine Cannabis Legislation in Alberta
- Define the relevant sections
- Examine cannabis products and quantities for sale in Alberta

Determine Federal, Provincial & Municipal Responsibilities
- Describe the responsibilities for each level of government and how they relate to police operations

Describe the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act
- Discover the changes to the GLCA and relate them to policing

Municipal Bylaws
- Review the Calgary bylaws, exemptions and penalties related to cannabis
- Explain the link between municipal bylaws and federal offences

Police Operations
- Establish police practices with cannabis legislation

Quick Reference Charts

Developed multiple PowerPoint presentations for delivering to different staff groups. Over 2000 internal CPS staff trained using these materials.

Developed several reference charts for employees to quickly review the legal limits of cannabis, as well as conversion charts for the Criminal Code sections. Required in-depth knowledge of the legislation couple with design accumen to create easy to read on-the-job resources.
